Nelson v Padiham.....The Results

Padiham Tops Nelson in Friendly Photo Club Competition

Padiham Photography Club came out ahead of Nelson Photography Club in their latest head-to-head, winning the overall competition by 4 points.

The event featured two main categories – prints and digitals – with both clubs submitting some seriously impressive work. Judge Rebecca Entwistle had the tough job of scoring the entries and praised the high standard across the board.

While Nelson had some standout images, it was Padiham’s consistency across both categories that gave them the edge this time around.

Big thanks to everyone who took part, and especially to Rebecca for judging. Can’t wait to see what both clubs come up with next time!

May

Our 2nd monthly photography competition featured a total of 70 entries divided between two categories: Open and Nature. We were delighted to welcome Mark Williams as our judge for the evening. Mark brought a wealth of experience and a keen eye for both technical detail and creative expression.

Throughout the evening, Mark provided thoughtful and constructive feedback on each image. His critiques were well-balanced—highlighting strengths while offering clear suggestions for improvement. He spoke on both the technical elements of photography such as exposure, focus, and composition, as well as the artistic aspects including mood, storytelling, and impact.

Open Category:

This category showcased a broad array of subjects and styles. Mark commended the variety and creativity on display, with several images standing out for their originality and strong composition. He particularly praised the entries that conveyed a clear visual message or emotion.

Nature Category:

The Nature section drew many striking entries that demonstrated members’ appreciation for the natural world. From wildlife to landscapes, the submissions showed excellent attention to detail and timing. Mark was impressed by the patience and skill evident in capturing animals in motion, as well as the ability to use natural light effectively in landscape shots.

Mark noted the overall high standard of work and encouraged all participants to continue refining their skills. He emphasized the importance of reviewing one's images with a critical eye before submission and suggested that even small adjustments in cropping, contrast, or framing can elevate an image significantly.

We extend our sincere thanks to Mark Williams for his engaging and insightful judging. His contribution made the evening both enjoyable and educational, and we hope to welcome him back in future competitions.
