3rd January
Tonight we held our Print and Digital Image of the Year competition, we had 60 entries, 30 prints and 30 DPI's. These were judged by Mr. Adrian Hendley CPAGB of Colne, he had the task of choosing just one print from the print section,and then one DPI from the from the digital section. The night ended with the winning Digital Image of the Year going to Roger Johnstone with "Common Blue Butterflies Mating" and the winning Print went to Bill Smith with " Female Siskin "

This years Evening Presentation at the ACE Centre is on Tuesday 13th March 2018.
We are pleased to announce we have 3 presentations for that evening.
Roger Johnstone with an illustrated presentation on Butterflies of Great Britain & Europe also Studley Royal & Fountains Abbey.
Bill Smith will be showing his images from
Bill & Clares trip to Skye.
Plus, Tony Robinson will be doing an illustrated lecture with A Natural History Journey. Tickets are now on sale from members of Nelson Camera Club priced at £4.
You can also pay on the door on the evening.
Doors open 7pm for 7.30pm.

Our Annual General Meeting was held on Tuesday 16th January.
We now have a new president for the next 12 months Mr Howard Harrison, he took over from Mr Ken Wilmore.
There are changes to Print Competition rules, we have decided to have 2 categories in future competitions, Open & Nature and these will be judged separately, go to the Competitions page to read the changes.

31st January
Jeff Needham wins the 2018 Five Minute Audio Visual Competition.
Jeff was awarded the trophy for the best
5 minute AV, " Walking Devon & Cornwall Coast Path " a stunning presentation of his walks on the way to Lands End.
Congratulations Jeff, well done.
6th February
John R Barlow Wild Bird Photographer gave us a presentation of the wildlife that he has photographed in and around his local area.

20th February
Presentation night of trophy's and certificates for those who entered the Annual Print & Digital Competition. There was a total of 7 trophy's to be won, and certificate's for Commended and Highly Commended. We had a good mix of members gaining trophies and certificates.
This year we held the awards presentation in our own club room at Walton Lane, and we think that it went down very well with our members, who enjoyed tea and cake afterwards.

Nelson Camera Clubs Annual Print Exhibition
is now on at the ACE Centre Cross St. Nelson.
Prints are on display in the upstairs gallery at the ACE Centre until
28th March. Mon to Sat, 10am to 4pm. Entrance is free.
10th March
We regret to announce that Geoff Proctor, treasurer and valued member passed away on Thursday 8th March. Geoff had been a member of Nelson Camera Club for quite a number of years, he was the clubs treasurer and committee member, he will be sadly missed.
Funeral will take place at Skipton Crematorium on Thursday 22nd March at 1.20pm.

The L&CPU Annual Club Digital Competition
After a hard day of judging by Phil Charnock FRPS MSIAP, Gwen Charnock FRPS MSIAP and Dianne Owen FRPS,
the L&CPU once again demonstrated the outstanding quality of photography in the federation.
We now have the results of Nelsons entry in the L&CPU Annual Club Digital Competition 2018.
This was judged on 5th April 2018.
There was an entry from 34 clubs and in the Final Club Rankings Nelson gained a very creditable 12th place with a total of 261.

Nelson Camera Club Wins the ICPA Digital Knockout
The ICPA Digital Knockout was held at Bury PS on the 19th April 2018,
16 clubs entered from all over the North West and Nelson CC came out
on top with a total of 42 points beating Chorley and Darwen into
joint second place with 39 points and Bury gaining 4th.

Results of Aprils Print Comp can now be viewed on the "Results 2018" page.
This year we have changed the format for the print competitions, we now have 2 categories
Open and Nature and only the top 3 in each category will go through with a chance of being Print of the Year.

8th May
Digital Image Competition 1
We held our first digital image comp tonight with a total of 37 images, 20 in the Open section & 17 in the Nature section.
Roger Johnstone came out the winner of both sections with his images of Azure Damselflies Mating & Struggling to stay in Touch, Colne Grand Prix 2017, congratulations to Roger your images are superb, and a big thank you to all who entered and made the evening a great success. 22nd May
Results of our second Print Competition are now on the website under "Results 2018"
We had a total of 31 entries, 21 in the Open Section and 10 in the Nature Section. The judge for the evening was Mr George Steele from Bury who made some genuine constructive comments for all the entries.

Last Tuesday saw our 3rd Print Competition, and we had a good response with over 40 prints. Our judge for the evening was Daryl Giles CPAGB of Preston who did a brilliant job of picking the top 3 in each section. Well done to Bill Smith with 1st place in the Open section and also Tony Mellor who took 1st place in the Nature section.

3rd September
Inter Club Photographic Alliance (ICPA) Annual Competition 2018
Nelson Camera Club has won the Frank Sellers Trophy in the Projected Digital Image Competition by gaining 1st place.
Nelson scored a total of 77 points, beating all other clubs who entered.
Two of our members got a maximum score of 20 for their images - Bill Smith with “Fighting Starlings” and Tony Mellor CPAGB with “Storm Doris February 2017”.
Bill was awarded 2nd place and Tony 3rd Place in this section of the competition.
In the Colour Print competition Nelson gained 4th Place
In the Monochrome Print competition Nelson gained 6th Place

Mr George Steele CPAGB, LRPS, BPE2* came all the way from Rochdale to judge the competition. There was an excellent entry on the night with 34 in the Open section & 22 in the Nature section & George had to choose the top 5 in each section, which he did remarkably well with such a good standard of images in each.
Anne-Marie Imeson won the Nature section with an outstanding image of a Migrant Hawker & our newest member Ken Jensen won the Open section with Beneath the Stars. Congratulations to you both, both superb images.
25th September
Our 4th Print Competition was held tonight, judged by Mr. Graham Currey of Stockport. Once again our newest member, Mr Ken Jensen, took 1st place in the Nature section & he also gained 3rd place aswell.

Our yearly Themed Competition was held on Tuesday night. We had 38 entries and it was judged by Mr. John Fletcher CPAGB of Grindleton.
Michael Whittaker CPAGB took top spot with his image "Woodcutter" and by winning the competition this year Michael gets to choose next years Theme so watch this space for his decision.

6th November
Our final Print Competition for this year was held tonight, again we had a very high standard of work from our members. Entries totaled 32 so our judge Mr. Nick Berentzen CPAGB,BPE 1* of Stockport had his work cut out for him. At the end of the night he had chosen 3 Open prints and 3 Nature prints taking 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each catagory.

The last of our Digital Image Competitions for 2018 came to an end tonight with Roger Johnstone keeping up his winning ways, taking 1st & 2nd in the Nature category, well done Roger.
Tony Morris won the Open category with his image of Brighton Beach in Winter,well done Tony.
The judge for the competition was Harry Emmett CPAGB from Acrington Camera Club.

Print & Digital Image of the Year Competition 2018
Over the past year we have held various competitions both print & digital and Tuesday night saw all the images which got placings in this years competitions go into thier own competition. We had 30 Digital images & 30 Print images. These were judged by Mr. Adrian Hendley CPAGB from Colne, Adrian had the task of choosing just 1 print for Print of the Year & 1 digital for Digital Image of the Year, and in Adrians own words "with the standard of work that is being produced by Nelson's members this is not going to be easy".
In the end Roger Johnstones digital image of Azure Damselflies Mating took the award of Digital Image of the Year 2018 and
Tony Mellor CPAGB was awarded Print of the Year 2018 with his print of Golden Eagle in Flight.
Congratulations to Roger & congratulations to me.
